CanDo: Employment Now!
The newest addition to the SBCS Employment & Education Programs, CanDo is geared to adults who have experienced serious mental health issues, many social barriers and may not see themselves as employable. In many cases they have been labelled "unemployable" because they were unable to manage structured programs which did not suit their needs. The CanDo program offers the experience of doing productive work individually or as a member of a group and being paid for each hour worked.
CanDo Central is the clearing house for employment opportunities for members of this work program. Staff find paid employment for small groups of people, working together at various jobs in the community. The jobs are flexible – they can be a few hours per day or one or more days per week.
The objective is to offer opportunities for CanDo participants to experience success in employment so that they can take the first steps towards recovery, with employment playing a significant role in their transition back to the community.
