Community Building

Adults who have struggled with mental health issues and significant barriers to employment are as diverse as any community, yet they share one compelling similarity with each other: personal isolation that makes it difficult for them to step out into the community and take those first steps towards active participation in the world around them. For this reason, SBCS created a series of community building activities that help create a sense of belonging and help draw out people who might otherwise remain reluctant to participate. In the process, they begin to discover that they are welcomed and accepted and feel the benefits of fellowship with others in environments that offer acceptance and approval. These are the first building blocks of personal growth and self-esteem that may lead these participants to begin to contemplate other opportunities in the community, including employment.
