Real Lives
Paul
I started New Beginnings in 2004. At the time, I was living at Access House. Prior to this, I had been living on the street for approximately 10 years.
At New Beginnings, I learned how to be a member of the work force. At other places I had worked, I always felt like I was a number. New Beginnings wasn’t like that. The staff were so easy going. I always knew that if I were to succeed, it would have to be for me. The staff there understood that.
In January, 2008, I started the cooking program at the Hungry Heart Cafe. In October, I was hired as a member of the wait staff. The staff are great. They are all down to earth, and accept me for who I am. Working there gives me a chance to get to know myself and to secure my place in the work force.
