Brian Martin Housing Resource Centre

In response to the phenomenal growth of this aspect of SBCS activities, in 2009, the organization created a Housing Resource Centre which has become essential to support the 200-plus tenants and tenant inquiries which the organization handles at any one time.
Named the Brian Martin Housing Resource Centre, this program will provide wrap-around services to SBCS tenants at Rawlins Cross properties as well as to the broader community, offering any individual or community agency improved access to both non-profit housing developers as well as private market landlords for affordable housing in the northeast Avalon region. The Centre is named after Brian Martin, a corporate representative with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation who was a passionate advocate for the need to develop more affordable housing in the community. Following his untimely death in 2008, the Martin Family designated the Stella Burry Foundation as the charity of choice for donations to be made in Brian’s memory. Each year the organization hosts the Brian Martin Memorial Golf Tournament which has become a must attend event for Brian’s legion of friends and acquaintances. As of 2009, the organization has raised more than $40,000 in Brian’s memory.
